Get Started
This is the shortest path from an empty account to your first Report for a client, and each step links to its full guide. Once you connect your tools and synchronize them, you can build and deliver Reports.
Your first Report, start to end
- Connect your tools. Connect your PSA, and the other tools you make Reports about, for example your backup or security tools. See Connections and Integrations.
- Add your clients. Import the companies of your clients from your PSA as Organizations. Then map them to their records in your other systems. See Organizations and Mapped Organizations.
- Specify the data to get. Set up a Data Source for the data that you want. See Data Sources.
- Make a chart. Build a Visualization from that data. See Build a Visualization.
- Assemble a Report. Add your Visualization to a Report. You can also add Text Blocks. A Report is a template you use again. You select the client when you run the Report, so one Report is enough for many clients. See Build a Report.
- Schedule the Report and deliver it. Run or schedule the Report for one or more clients, then deliver it. Then invite the contacts of each client to read it in your portal. See Run, Schedule, and Deliver Reports. For the invitation of contacts, see Organizations and Mapped Organizations.
The Get Started checklist
The Dashboard shows a Get Started checklist under Setup progress. It follows the path above, without the Visualization step:
- Connect Your PSA
- Set Up Organizations
- Create a Data Source
- Create Your First Report
- Schedule a Report
Only an MSP Admin sees the checklist and the Dashboard summary.
The steps open in order, each one closed until you finish the step before it. Create a Data Source opens after you set up your Organizations, and Create Your First Report opens after you make a Data Source, so you can't make a Report before you have a Data Source.
The checklist disappears after you finish every step, and from then on the Dashboard shows the state of your reporting.
What the Dashboard shows after setup
The Dashboard answers three questions: what needs your attention, what is waiting on you, and how your reporting is spread across your clients.
The period you are looking at
The Range control at the top right sets the period. Select Today, This week, This month, Last month, Last 90 days, or All time, so the period matches how often you run your Reports. Deepwell remembers your choice for your next visit. The control appears once you have finished setup, because before then there is nothing for it to filter.
Report Snapshots that failed
If a Report Snapshot fails to generate, a band at the top tells you how many. Deepwell holds a failed Report Snapshot back, so a client never gets a broken Report. Select View alerts to see what went wrong and which Organization each one belongs to.
Report Snapshots
The Report Snapshots card counts the Report Snapshots generated in the period, and shows the state each one is in now:
- delivered, which your client can read in the portal.
- to review, which you have generated but not delivered.
- failed, which did not generate.
The card also shows your next scheduled run.
The three cards below
- Report Snapshots to Review counts the Report Snapshots that are generated but not delivered.
- Organizations With Report Snapshots counts the clients that received a Report Snapshot in the period.
- Organizations splits your clients into those with Scheduled Reports and those without. Most MSPs report on some of their clients and not all of them, so a split here is normal. If you have not imported any Organizations yet, this card takes you to the import step, or to connect a PSA if you have not done that.
The last two are counted separately, so an Organization with a Schedule that ran in the period is in both.
How to get help in the app
The Helpful Links section at the bottom of the sidebar always has a link to the guide page for the view that you're on, for example Building Reports.
To tell us about the view that you're on, select Feedback in the same section. See How to send feedback. To contact Deepwell about a problem, select Support. See How to contact support.
Optional tasks
The two tasks that follow are not needed for your first Report, but you can do them at any time.
- Put your portal on your own domain. Your portal already carries your brand and works on the default address, and a custom domain makes the address yours too. See White Label and Custom Domain.
- Add your team. Invite the Users on your team, so more than one person can build and run Reports. See Team and Users.
